Composite Doors in Didcot

Dynasty Windows supplies and installs composite doors for homes in Didcot and across Oxfordshire. A composite door is built from several materials bonded together, usually a solid core wrapped in a weather resistant outer skin, rather than being made from one single material throughout. The result is a door that feels heavy and solid when you open it, holds its shape through wet and cold weather, and keeps the look of timber without the repainting.

Most people come to us for a composite front door, either because the existing one has started to stick, draught or look tired, or because they want the entrance to match work they are having done elsewhere on the house. Composite doors also work well as back doors and side doors where security and insulation matter.

What the work involves

We begin by measuring the existing opening and looking at the frame, threshold and surrounding brickwork. From there we go through the choices with you, which cover the door style, the colour inside and out, any glazing panel and the pattern of that glass, plus the handles, letterplate, knocker, hinges and lock. These decisions change how the door looks from the street, so it is worth taking time over them before anything is ordered.

On fitting day we take out the old door and frame, prepare and level the threshold, fit the new frame square and true, hang and adjust the door so it closes cleanly on its seals, then fit the ironmongery and seal around the outside. We test the lock and the closing action before we leave, tidy up and take the old door away with us.

Who it is for

Composite doors suit homeowners who want a low maintenance entrance door, anyone dealing with draughts or a door that no longer shuts properly, and landlords looking for something hard wearing. They are also a common part of the complete refurbishment projects we take on, where the windows and doors are replaced together so the colours and finishes line up across the whole property.

Common questions

How is a composite door different from a uPVC door?

A uPVC door is made from plastic profiles with a hollow or lightly reinforced core, while a composite door uses a solid core with a tougher outer skin. Composite doors tend to feel heavier and more substantial to use. We are happy to set out the differences for your opening and let you decide which makes sense.

What colours and styles can I have?

There is a wide choice of colours, woodgrain finishes and panel designs, and the inside face can often be a different colour from the outside. Glazed panels come in several patterns and obscure levels. We will show you the options before the order goes in.

Do you need to replace the frame as well?

In most cases the door and frame are replaced together, as the new door is made to suit its own frame and seals. If an existing frame is sound and compatible we will say so when we measure. Either way you will know what is being replaced before we start.
